The initial price of entry was high with the Galaxy Note and its very able successor. But now the cost factor is being dealt with by way of cutting back on luxuries like quality displays, frugal storage options and toned down processing power. The samsung Galaxy Grand duos is one of the many contenders in this category. The main selling point of this oversized smartphone is its TouchWiz UI and the ‘smart’ features we saw in the Galaxy s III and even Note II. For example, there is s- Motion, smart stay and accompanying productivity tools like s- Notes (minus the s- Pen). 

                  The multi- window feature is also part of the package, meaning you can work across two apps in a split screen view. The dual sIM feature is a great inclusion but we would have liked a beefier battery instead of the 2100mAh power pack that’s been fitted into this slim 5- incher. With the power saving options, it does have the ability to last through the day and even longer if you cut back on a sIM. The display is pretty lower res (480x800, 187ppi) so Hd clips don’t really look their best. However, it’s bright and delivers an excellent touch response. 

                The dualcore chip and 1GB seemed quite up to the task for many an app. It is a workhorse not a powerhouse though.  The onboard 8GB internal memory may seem less for some but then again, at least there is a microsd slot. You still have Wi- Fi (if not dual band) and dLNA whenever you feel the need to stream a video or two. For a 5 -inch dual sIM smartie the Grand  duos comes close to hitting the sweet spot.
